Situated near the snowline in Central Otago's Upper Clutha basin, Akitu is an estate entirely dedicated to mastering Pinot Noir. Cultivated at 380 metres above sea level on ancient schist soils, the vines endure a marginal, semi-continental climate that demands resilience but rewards with incredible purity and focus.

The "A2" cuvée is designed to be the estate's most expressive and generous release. Guided by winemaker PJ Charteris, the fruit undergoes wild yeast fermentation with a portion of whole bunches to build aromatic lift and structural complexity. By aging the wine primarily in older French oak and bottling it unfined and unfiltered, the natural energy of the high-altitude vineyard is beautifully preserved. It delivers a plush, velvety texture bursting with dark cherry, crushed violet, and subtle mountain thyme, all framed by a vibrant, mineral-driven acidity.

Pouring this bottle demonstrates a deep understanding of New World Pinot Noir. It offers the signature generosity of Central Otago without sacrificing the intellectual tension and silkiness expected from a world-class wine.
