Rosé Champagne

From Laurent-Perrier's maceration method to Bollinger and Ruinart

Rosé Champagne from nearly every house that makes one. Bollinger, Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon, Taittinger and Ruinart are all here, alongside Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, which takes its colour from macerating Pinot Noir on its skins rather than from adding red wine to a white base. Champagne Autreau Premier Cru Rosé covers the grower end. Most come boxed with our signature large hand-tied ribbon and a message card, or plain if you are buying for yourself. Tracked UK delivery, next-day available.

How rosé Champagne is made, and why the method matters

There are two ways to make it, and they give different wines. The common method is assemblage: a small measure of still red wine is added to a white base until the colour is right. The rarer method is maceration, where black grapes sit on their skins for a day or two and the colour and aroma come from the fruit itself. Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé is the best-known maceration rosé and has been since 1968. Most of the other houses here blend, which is not a lesser route - simply a different one, and easier to keep consistent year to year.

The houses making rosé Champagne on this list

Nearly every major house makes one. Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial and Veuve Clicquot Rosé carry the widest recognition. Bollinger Rosé is built on the same Pinot Noir backbone as Special Cuvée. Taittinger Prestige Rosé and Ruinart Rosé come at it from the Chardonnay side of their houses. Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé is the maceration one. At the grower end, Champagne Autreau Premier Cru Rosé is the least expected bottle on the page.

Rosé Champagne as a gift

Rosé reads as a more deliberate choice than the standard label from the same house, which is why so much of it leaves here boxed. Most of this page is available in a gift box finished with our signature large hand-tied ribbon and a message card in your words, with no pricing in the box. The wider Champagne gifts range carries the same bottles alongside chocolate pairings and flute sets.

Formats, and where rosé sits in the wider Champagne range

Rosé comes in the same formats as everything else. Standard 75cl covers most of it, and Champagne magnums carry rosé too. Flute sets pair a bottle with the glasses. For the Brut and vintage side of the same houses, the full Champagne range runs from grower bottles up to Krug and Dom Pérignon.

The Fulham Wine Co. Take

Rosé Champagne is where several houses now do their most distinctive work. Laurent-Perrier macerates rather than blends; Bollinger builds its rosé on the same Pinot Noir backbone as Special Cuvée. The differences between them are real rather than cosmetic, and every one here is a bottle we would open rather than save.

FAQs About Rosé Champagne

Is rosé Champagne sweeter than regular Champagne?

No. The colour has nothing to do with sweetness - almost all rosé Champagne is Brut, exactly like the white version from the same house. What changes is the fruit character, which comes from the black grapes carrying more red-fruit flavour with them.

What is the difference between blended and maceration rosé?

Blended rosé takes a finished white base and adds still red wine to it. Maceration rosé gets its colour from leaving the juice on black grape skins for a day or two before fermenting. Blending is easier to repeat consistently; maceration tends to give more fruit intensity. Laurent-Perrier is the house here doing the second.

Is rosé Champagne only for summer?

It reads that way because still rosé does, but the two have very little in common. Rosé Champagne is generally fuller and more vinous than the white version from the same house, which makes it a better cold-weather bottle than most people assume.

Which rosé Champagne is the best known?

Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, by a distance - it created the category as a serious proposition in 1968 and its bottle shape is recognised on sight. Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial and Veuve Clicquot Rosé are the most widely sold.
