Pommery Brut Royal 18.7cl
Brut Royal is Pommery's flagship Champagne - the wine the house is built on - here in a single-serve 18.7cl quarter bottle. Pommery has a real claim to this style: back in 1874 it made the first commercially successful brut, the dry Champagne that the whole region followed, and Brut Royal is the modern expression of it.
It's a classic equal-thirds blend of the three Champagne grapes - Chardonnay for freshness and finesse, Pinot Noir for body, Pinot Meunier for its soft fruit - drawn from around forty villages across the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. It's aged for three years in Pommery's chalk cellars, with a good proportion of older reserve wines in the blend, which is what gives it its rounded, biscuity depth.
The result is pale gold and properly dry, with citrus, orchard fruit and white flowers over a soft brioche note, fine bubbles and a clean, fresh finish. A single glass, ready when you are. Serve well chilled, around 8-10°C.
