La Grande Année is the Champagne Bollinger makes only when a vintage earns it - and 2018 is the first of a run the house rates among its greatest. It's a blend of 66% Pinot Noir and 34% Chardonnay drawn from 19 of the finest Grand and Premier Cru villages, with Aÿ and Verzenay at its heart.

What sets it apart is how it's made. Bollinger is one of the last houses to ferment its prestige cuvée entirely in oak barrels, then age it for around seven years under cork - more than twice the legal minimum - riddled and disgorged by hand. The result is rich and creamy but precise, generous enough to open now yet built to keep for years. This is Bollinger at the very top of what it does.
