Domaine Drouhin Arthur Chardonnay (2023)
The 2023 Vintage
The Drouhin family's decision to bring their centuries of Burgundian expertise to the Willamette Valley permanently elevated the standard for American wine. "Arthur," named after winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin's son, is crafted to capture the essence of their high-altitude Dundee Hills estate.
It is a Chardonnay that relies on precision and terroir rather than heavy manipulation. Cultivated exclusively from Dijon clones planted in the iron-rich soils of Oregon, the winemaking employs a highly deliberate dual-fermentation process. A portion of the fruit is fermented in French oak barrels to build complexity and depth, while the remainder is aged in stainless steel to preserve its vibrant, crystalline energy. Véronique masterfully blends these components to create a wine designed to offer the purity of a Chablis alongside the textural elegance of a Meursault.
This is a wine of quiet confidence and sophisticated restraint. Pouring "Arthur" signals a preference for intellectual, finely tuned Chardonnay that prioritizes mineral tension and bright floral aromatics over heavy oak. It is a benchmark bottle that brings undeniable Old World pedigree to any table.
