Clase Azul's mezcal comes from San Luis Potosí, a different world from its Jalisco tequilas - made with wild green agave native to the state's high desert, where the plant grows slowly under big skies and harsh sun. Mezcal is tequila's older, broader family: the same agave roots, but a smokier, more characterful spirit with far more room to surprise you.

This one is unaged and full-bodied, and it leans savoury rather than sweet: cooked agave and caramel up front, then a green-chile lift, lime zest and clove, finishing dry and gently spiced with a stony, earthy edge. Sip it slowly and neat, the way mezcal is meant to be drunk - it rewards attention.

The Decanter

The cap is made by hand using colored-yarn appliqué - a desert landscape of mountains and valleys with bright red finches flying over it, each one taking more than three hours of an artisan's work. It's the most intricate piece in the Clase Azul range, and like the mezcal inside, unmistakably its own thing.
