Marqués de Murrieta Reserva | Rioja | Fulham Wine – The Fulham Wine Company

Marques de Murrieta

As the foundational stone of modern Rioja, Marqués de Murrieta has defined the pinnacle of Spanish winemaking royalty since 1852. Established by Don Luciano Murrieta, who famously introduced Bordeaux-inspired barrel maturation to the region, the estate combines nearly two centuries of history with a fiercely progressive technical outlook. Uniquely for a historic house of this scale, production is drawn entirely from their continuous 300-hectare Finca Ygay estate, allowing for total control from vineyard to bottle. Helmed by world-renowned winemaker María Vargas, the estate balances old-world patience with avant-garde gravity facilities to shape monumental, slow-evolving masterpieces. From their iconic, long-aged Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva to their texturally profound whites, Marqués de Murrieta delivers ultra-precise, structural icons built for decades of cellar development.

Rioja

Rioja is Spain's most famous wine - the benchmark red of the north, made mainly from Tempranillo on the hills along the Ebro river, sheltered from the Atlantic by a wall of mountains. What sets it apart is patience: the classic houses age their wines for years in oak and bottle before release, so a Reserva arrives soft, savoury and ready, with sweet red fruit and a warm note of vanilla and spice from the barrel. Few regions hand you a wine this mature, straight off the shelf.
