Emilio Moro Finca Resalso, Ribera del Duero (2024)
Finca Resalso is where Emilio Moro began, and where the easiest way into the estate still lies. When it was first released in 1994 it caused a stir in Ribera del Duero - it was the first young wine in the region to be touched by oak at all, at a time when serious Ribera meant long years in barrel. It takes its name from the family's historic vineyard, planted in 1932, the year Emilio Moro himself was born.
The wine is 100% Tinto Fino - the local Tempranillo - drawn from the estate's youngest vines, between five and fifteen years old, which is exactly where its bright, primary fruit comes from. After fermentation it spends just four months in French oak: enough to round the tannins and add a faint savoury edge, but never enough to cover the fruit. The soils here run from deep red clay on the valley floor to chalkier, stonier ground higher up, giving the wine both flesh and lift.
The result is Ribera in its most open, drinkable form - mulberry, ripe cherry and a touch of liquorice, juicy and fresh with a clean, energetic finish. Serve at 15-16°C, a touch cooler than a heavier red.
